At the Perth South Council meeting in St. Pauls on Dec. 1, Perth South Economic Development Committee member and longtime member of the Perth Area Accessibility Committee Dennis Manarey (pitcured) was presented an award from the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) for his work championing accessibility in the community. This year was the 10th anniversary of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and Manarey was one of the recipients of the AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Awards. In his speech congratulating Manarey for the honour, Perth South Mayor and Perth County Warden Robert Wilhelm noted that Manarey had been a member of the Perth Area Accessibility Committee since 2009 and has chaired the committee twice. “Dennis has worked with staff at the Perth South Township office and other community members to apply for accessibility grant funds for improvements to the Township office,” Wilhelm said. “He is well-connected in the community and is always looking for ways to improve accessibility and at a minimum cost to the ratepayers.”
