Trent Severn, the Stratford-based trio specializing in Canadiana folk/roots/country music, are inviting everyone to put on their sandals and shorts and grab a hot dog off the BBQ on February 14th. The first annual Family Day Weekend Winter Warmer will take place Valentine’s Day – Sunday February 14th, with two shows at the St. Marys Golf and County Club. The 1pm-3pm afternoon show will be one for the whole family – kids are welcome and encouraged to join in on the summer fun. The concert ticket price ($13 for kids 16 and under and $20 for adults) includes a hot dog or sausage. The evening show which begins at 7pm is $40 and includes gourmet street meats as well as fries and salad.
The golf course has agreed to “turn up the heat” and the band aims to turn the venue into a “summer bush bash”. The show will also debut Trent Severn’s new fiddle player, Lindsay Schindler, who many area residents will recognize from her work with Celtic band Rant Maggie Rant. Other members of Trent Severn include Juno nominated artists Dayna Manning and Emm Gryner.
Last year, Trent Severn released “Trillium”, their sophomore album. The album is an Ontario-themed collection of roots, country and folk songs. One of the band’s tracks, “Stealin’ Syrup” is inspired by the maple syrup heist of 2012. The trio were invited to perform the song on Canada AM in December, along with their very own original holiday song “O Snow”.
Trent Severn have sung “O Canada” on Parliament Hill, and shared the stage with Chris Hadfield at The Grand Theatre last fall. The trio has also been nominated for 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
