The St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “Someone I Know” capital campaign is receiving a boost from someone known by many.
St. Marys-based international recording artist Emm Gryner will perform on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Town Hall Theatre to benefit the campaign – and tickets are now available, just in time for Christmas giving.
“The hospital has played a major role in the well-being of our family,” says Gryner of the generous decision to offer her talents. “Our son was born premature and was sick a lot when he was three and four,” she explains. “It just felt right to try to give back in any way I can, as having a healthy family is pretty much all that matters.”
It’s not just Gryner giving back for the hospital foundation; her band and crew are also volunteering their time and talents so that all proceeds from the show go toward the Someone I Know campaign to improve the St. Marys Memorial Hospital and the Tradition Centre for Wellness.
Gryner will be playing songs from her extensive catalogue, including her album 21st Century Ballads, which was released in September.
As the title suggests, “the new album is all ballads,” Gryner says. “It’s one of my favourite ones I’ve made because we recorded it live in studio. I wrote all the songs and my friend Joe Corcoran (who also produced Gryner’s Space Oddity duet with Chris Hadfield) wrote a bit too and produced it.”
Gryner will also perform some of her popular covers of 80s hits by Def Leppard, Hall & Oates and Ozzy Osbourne. A fun addition throughout the show is video footage created by Jan Gowan (wife of musician Lawrence) which plays behind Gryner and her band.
Opening the show is Michael Vanhevel, a talented young crooner from Petrolia. “I’m not kidding when I say he is our generation’s Frank Sinatra,” Gryner says. “I can’t wait to share the stage with him!”
Tickets for this licensed show are $30 each and are now available at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation office on the lower level of the hospital (call 519-284-1332, ext. 3306) as well as Lauren Whitney Lifestyles and Deep Waters Music, both on Queen Street in downtown St. Marys.
