A quick roundup of all the action from your St. Marys DCVI Salukis:
The senior girls volleyball team participated in a volleyball tournament in Woodstock last Friday. First came the round robin tournament, which saw the team first playing Assumption from Brantford, winning both sets 25-17 and 25-19. Next, against Woodstock Collegiate Institute, DCVI lost both sets 26-24 and 25-19. They drew even against St. Marys Catholic from Woodstock; with a 25-20 win and a 25-22 loss. After the round robin, the team sat in second in their pool. In the quarterfinals, they played St. Thomas Aquinas from London, losing both sets 25-20 and 26-24.
St. Marys DCVI’s Ian Russell competes in a back stroke race this Tuesday during the Perth Invitational swim meet at the Pyramid Centre.

The swim team had an excellent performance at the Perth Invitational Swim Meet on Tuesday. Schools from around the region took part, including Central Huron, Goderich, Mitchell, F.E. Madill, St. Anne’s, Stratford Central and St. Mike’s. Three Salukis finished in first, as Grace Hutton finished first in 100m Freestyle, Eric Lagace posted a first place finish in the 50m Butterfly, and Issac Russell got a first place finish in the 200m IM. Emily Mills and Annie Bolton had a strong race in the 100M IM, placing second and third respectively. Tom Bowen-Smith placed third in the senior boys 100M IM. Top ten finishes went to Peter Conway-Black, Emee Fink, Megan Hartman, and Lauren Stephens.
The junior boys basketball team travelled to F.E. Madill on Wednesday in hopes of picking up their first win of the season. First, they played the home team, losing by a score of 38-32, despite an 18-point performance from Mitch Watt. They responded to that loss with a 49-20 rout of South Huron, with Logan Edwards leading the charge with 18 points. The team is currently tied for fifth in the league with a 1-2 record.
The senior boys basketball team also played in FE Madill in search of their first win of the season. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t as successful as their junior counterparts, as they lost both games. First came a loss to FE Madill, as the home team put on a nice performance for their crowd on the way to a 69-23 win. Corey Fulop led the way for the Salukis with seven points. After that was a 45-43 loss to South Huron, a close game that the Seniors just couldn’t close out. The team is tied for ninth in the league with a record of 0-3.
