A quick roundup of all the action from your St. Marys DCVI Salukis.
The junior girls basketball team played their season closer at home Wednesday afternoon against Goderich, with both teams already having clinched a playoff spot. They still played well, with a 43-30 win. Abbey Thorup had another excellent game, as she led the team with 20 points, while Maia Moore had nine. The team finished with an 8-2 record, and have the third seed going into the playoffs. They will play St. Anne’s in the first round at home.
The senior girls basketball team also played their season closer Wednesday afternoon, but with different stakes. Goderich held the last playoff spot, and a Salukis win would pass them to give them the spot, so it was a do-or-die situation for the girls. Unfortunately, they’ll be on the outside looking in, as they lost 40-24 to end their season. Abi Versteegh, who is normally on the junior team but was called up due to the seniors not having enough players, led the team with 12 points. The team finished ninth for the season. They needed a top seven finish to qualify.
