The senior boys volleyball team won both of their games last Thursday against Central Huron and Stratford Northwestern, sweeping both games 3-0. They started the day with a dominating victory over Central Huron, with 25-18, 25-8, and 25-8 set wins, and then followed it up with 25-12, 25-20, and 25-21 set wins against Northwestern. They also participated in a tournament in Goderich, where they beat Walkerton (25-13, 25-16), Manitoulin (25-15, 25-23), Goderich (25-18, 25-15), and East Elgin (25-12, 25-11). This advanced them to the semifinals against FE Madill, where they won the first set 25-23, followed by a 24-26 loss. St. Marys won the tiebreaker 15-10, sending them to the finals against Saugeen Shores, sweeping them 25-20 and 25-21. Including the tournament, the Salukis have won 30 of their last 31 sets, the lone loss coming in extras, and they improved their record to 7-1, the best record in the league.
The boys baseball team won 10-8 in their makeup game, after the original game got cancelled last week. The offense came alive when it was needed the most, as six players got hits, including Max Boonstra, the pitcher who had two. Unfortunately, their 3-4 record wasn’t good enough to make the playoffs, as they needed a top four finish to qualify, and they finished fifth.
The junior girls basketball team had a great game on Wednesday at St. Anne’s, with a 38-6 win against Central Huron. Abbey Thorup played well again, with 19 points in the game. The win improves them to 7-2, which places them in third in the league. The team is a safe lock for the playoffs, which starts Monday, Nov. 9.
The senior girls basketball team also travelled to St. Anne’s on Wednesday, but lost 26-20 to Central Huron. Laura Vink was the only notable contributor, with seven points in the game. The team is ninth in the league, but is two points behind Goderich for the final playoff spot with one game left in the season, against…Goderich.
