The FINNBILT Novice BB team started the new year on a BIG note, with a 22-0 win over the Thamesford Attack. They currently have a 11-4-5 record, good for fourth in their division. They began their Playdowns as well, beating the Strathroy Jr. Rockets 3-1, and the Dorchester Dragons 4-3. The team plays Dorchester at home again on Monday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 pm, hoping to stay undefeated in the Playdowns.

The Foodland Novice AE team tied its final game of the season, a 2-2 score against the Ilderton Jets on Friday, Jan. 8. The novices finished in sixth with a 10-9-3 record, and can only drop as low as seventh. They also started their Playdowns this week, losing 4-0 to the Mt. Brydges Cougars on Saturday, Jan. 9. The team plays its second game of the round robin against Mt. Brydges on Monday, Jan. 18 at 7:10 pm, hoping to take advantage of home ice.

The STM Cement Midget BB team fought hard against the South Huron Sabres, ending the game in a 2-2 tie. They play another regular season game at the Forest Community Centre against the Lambton Shores Predators on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 6:15 pm. They continue their playdown at the Gemini Sportsplex Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 9:00 pm.

The Kinsmen Novice Girls team began 2016 on an excellent note, with a 2-0 win over the Stratford Aces. The team sits in third with their 6-2 record. The novices have another game with Stratford tonight at home at 6:00 pm, as well as a game at the East Elgin Community Complex against the BAD Blazers on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6:00 pm.

The McDonald’s Independent Atom BB team had a busy weekend, playing all three days. On Friday, they concluded their season with a 6-3 win over the North Middlesex Jr. Stars. They finish their season safely first in their division with a 20-2-0 record. On Saturday, they began their Playdowns with a 7-0 win over the Southpoint Capitals. On Sunday, they played the second game, a 5-1 win, which saw Peyton Lobb, Ian Boyd, Ethan Pearce, and Jimmy Schiedel all scored for the Rock, with Boyd scoring twice. This week, the team will be in the International Silverstick tournament in Sarnia.

The Norampac PeeWee Girls team got a couple of points over the weekend against Windsor, thanks to 2-2 and 1-1 ties. The ties give the team a 8-3-8 record. This week, the girls will travel to the Gemini Sportsplex to play Bluewater on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 8:15 pm.

The STM Fire Department PeeWee BB team opened their Playdowns with a 3-2 loss to a tough Strathroy Jr. Rockets team. Nate Reay and Kaleb Schall both had a goal, while Ben Turner had the team’s only assist. They’ll continue their series with Strathroy this week, with game two (Friday, Jan. 15 @ 6:45 pm) and game three (Tuesday, Jan. 19 @ 7:40 pm) occuring at the Gemini Sportsplex, and game four taking place Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8:15 pm at home.

The Frayne Custom Cabinets Bantam AE team began their Playdowns with the Mooretown Jr. Flags, winning their first game 5-4. They continue the playdowns this coming week, with two games at the MSC (Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3:45 pm & Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7:50 pm) and one game at home (Sunday, Jan. 17 @ 3:45 pm).

The STM Legion Midget AE team lost a disappointing game to the Wallaceburg Lakers on Friday, Jan. 8 by a score of 7-2, but concluded their season on a strong note, a 2-1 win over the Port Stanley Jr. Sailors. Jayden Aylward scored the first goal on a great individual effort, stealing the puck and going in alone on the goalie before roofing the puck, bar down, over the goalie’s glove. Port Stanley tied the game up just over 3 minutes later. Pressuring, Jacob Ford picked up the loose puck in the crease and tucked it in to break the tie, putting St Marys up with 36 seconds left in the second. The goal was assisted by Greg Feeny. Max Boonstra was in net, making several key saves in the third period to preserve the one-goal lead. The team finishes with a 3-12-3 record, which puts them 10th, although they could still slide into last place. The team played its first Playdown game against the Mt. Brydges Cougars yesterday, and continues with game two on Sunday Jan. 17 at 5:15 pm at home.

The Hubbard Pharmacy Midget Girls team had a dominating 5-1 win Monday over the East Lambton Eagles. The team improves to a 12-game winning streak, including an 11-0-0 record since the start of the second half of the season, which places them first in their division. This weekend, they travel to the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex to play the East Lambton Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 9:00 pm.
