The FINNBILT Novice BB team left Pelham as Silverstick champions! The team was successful in the round robin, beating the Dorchester Dragons 3-2 (goals from Griff McGregor, Nate Schiedel, and Chase McDougall), the Pelham Panthers 5-1 (goals from Schiedel, who had a hat trick, McDougall, and McGregor), and the Welland Tigers 5-1 (goals from Schiedel, who had two, Colton Henderson, who had two, and McGregor). In the semifinals, they beat the Lincoln Blades 6-4 (with goals from Oliver McHugh, who had two, Schiedel, who had two, McDougall, and McGregor). They faced the New Market Redmen in the finals, winning 3-2 (goals from Schiedel, who had two, and McDougall) to win the tournament.
The STM Legion Midget AE team kicked off the new year with a 3-1 win over the Ilderton Jets. Jayden Aylward, Greg Feeny, and Nick Edgar all got the goals, while Max Boonstra played a solid game in net for the win. They play in Wallaceburg tonight against the Lakers at 9:40 pm, followed by a game on Sunday, Jan. 10 at home against the Port Stanley Jr. Sailors at 5:15 pm, as well as the first game in their series against the Cougars in Mt. Brydges on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 8:00 pm.
The Hubbard Pharmacy Midget Girls team won their 11th game in a row with a win over the Zurich Thunder by a score of 3-1, with Samantha Spence in net for the win. This gives the team a 10-0-0 record in the second half, good for first in the league. Next week, they host the East Lambton Eagles on Monday, Jan. 11 at 8:20 pm, and the Kent County Fillies on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 9:00 pm.
The Foodland Novice AE team didn’t start off the new year the way they wanted to, with a 12-2 loss to the undefeated St. Thomas Jr. Stars, but they rebounded quickly with a 5-1 win over the South Huron Sabres. Issac Cousineau got the win in net, while Kaleb Dingman, Owen Slade, Simon Taylor, Jared Ballantyne, Ben Tanner, Simon Greig all had two point nights. The team currently sits in fifth in their league with a 10-9-2 record. The novices play tonight in Ilderton against the Jets at 6:30 pm.
The Home Hardware PeeWee AE team won its first game of the new year with a 4-3 win over the Lambeth Lancers. Owen Zubrigg, Alex Var, Mason Boonstra, and Max Smith all scored for the Rock, while Graham Thomson had a two-assist night. The team currently has a record of 8-11-1, which is good for sixth in the league.
The Frayne Custom Cabinets Bantam AE team won their last two games of the season, including a 7-0 win over the Lambeth Lancers, and a 4-3 win over the Ilderton Jets. The team has a record of 12-4-4, which finishes them in third in the league. The team is starting a series against the Mooretown Jr. Flags, with game one taking place 7:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Pyramid Centre.
The McDonalds Independent Atom BB team also had a successful trip to Pelham for Silverstick, as they too left champions! They dominated the round robin portion of the tournament, as they won 4-2 over Glanbrook, 5-0 over Grimsby, and 5-0 over Lincoln. In the semifinals, they had a rematch against Lincoln, winning 3-2 in overtime, with RJ Martin scoring the overtime winner. They followed that up with a 3-2 win against the home team Pelham in the finals, which saw Nathan Switzer score in the dying minutes of the game to win it for the Rock.
