If all goes well, a refugee family could be re-located to St. Marys within 6 months, according to Mayor Al Strathdee. The Mayor said that a steering committee has been set up with local industry, The Mennonite Central Committee and the St. Marys Ministerial Association leading the way. The committee will consist of 6 people namely, Mayor Strathdee, John Leberg, Rev. Gwen Ament, Rev. Margaret Smart-Wheaton, Steve Cousins and Stephen Habermehl. The actual relief application will go through the Mennonite Central Committee who have experience in sponsoring families. Mayor Strathdee said that he has received plenty of support from this area and they have an offer of an apartment so far for a incoming family. It is estimated that the actual cost to support a family for a year is $30,000.
