For three days last week from noon to 4:00 pm, customers who happened in to Jackson’s Pharmacy downtown in St. Marys had the chance to nibble on a few new snacks that will soon become new staples in the food aisle.
“We want to get into nutritional snacks, and this is all about trying to get people to have better snacks, and children to take better snacks to school with them,” said employee Roberta Near. “They are all new products. We will be bringing in more nutritional snacks also, but this is the start of it. So we’ll be having more taste testing to come.”
Included among the new line of products were “From Farm to Table – Canada” flavoured popcorn, which came in varieties “Sweet n’ Salty” and “Butter And Salt,” “Pop Fusion” flavoured popcorn, in flavours “Very Berry” and “Garden Vegetable Cheddar Cheese,” “Martin’s Family Fruit Farm” Apple Chips, and a line of coconut spreads with flavours including chocolate and vanilla.
With kids freshly back in the classroom, Near commented on how it’s a perfect time of year to consider healthy snack options. “A ziplock bag full of the “Pop Fusion” popcorn contains one full serving of fruit or vegetables,” she said.
