If you’ve been reading local newspapers for the past 15 years, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen the handiwork of our new advertising representative, and the newest member of the St. Marys Independent team: St. Marys’ own Erin Fifield.
Erin attended elementary and high school locally as a youngster, at South Perth Centennial and then St. Marys DCVI, before graduating with honours from the advertising program at Georgian College in Barrie in 2000. It was shortly after then that she first began working in the local newspaper business, when she started as a reporter at the Journal Argus. Next she got a job in advertising with the Beacon Herald before she began working in the advertising department at the Mitchell Advocate. She held that position for seven years, until she and her husband Derek started their family. During that hiatus from the biz, they had three children, Jaxon, Kylie and Avery, who are all now school-aged and attend South Perth Centennial just like their mother did.
“I’m excited to be back, and to help businesses in the area reach new customers,” Erin said.
Erin says she hopes to help the newspaper increase its digital presence, beef up its Web site, and “add some more features that make it more interactive and user-friendly for our readers and our advertisers.”
“I want to use social media more, so people find it easy to come to us for all the news and information that they want for this area,” she said.
