Christmas at SPCS – South Perth Centennial School put on two performances of its annual Christmas Concert Tuesday afternoon and evening, with each class taking its turn on the stage to spread the Christmas spirit.

Mrs. Gettler and Mrs. Feeney’s Kindergarten students sang a pair of familiar rhymes adapted for the Holiday season, including “Jingle, Jingle Little Bell” and “He’ll Be Comin’ Down the Chimney.”



Mrs. Leis’ Grade 3/4 class danced up a storm with their rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

Mrs. Purvis’ Grade 1/2 Class asks “Don’t you think it’s time you were in bed?” during their performance of “Old Toy Trains.”

On Monday morning, Lyric Flowers owners Lanny Hoare, left, and Jay Harrison, right, donated $1,007 towards the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Someone I Know capital campaign. The money was raised during their Dec. 6 Christmas Home Tour. Also pictured are hospital foundation fundraising coordinator Krista Linklater and fundraising chair Pat Craigmile. Lyric Flowers’ hospital fundraising continues in the form of an ongoing candle holder sale.

During the Community Dinner held Monday, Dec. 14 at the St. Marys United Church, members of the church’s community dinner board presented a cheque for $5,000 to the Salvation Army Food Bank. The money was raised through the church’s Community Dinners, which are held every second Monday between September and June at the church’s hall. From left are Community Dinner assistant coordinator Marion Ready, Community Dinner coordinator Shirley Porter, Salvation Army Major Pamela Stanger and Sue Mowat, from the Salvation Army Food Bank. Monday’s dinner was hosted by Community Living St. Marys and Area.

On Friday at Little Falls Public School, students had the chance to take part in the ‘Hour of Code,’ a worldwide initiative to get kids in elementary and high school interested in computer science and programming. Pictured, Grade 3 and 4 students sprawled out on gym mats with their laptops and tablets listen to directions from teacher Keltie Sabin, right. The hour consisted of students cooperatively working out progressively more difficult problems (featuring characters from Star Wars, Frozen and the video game Minecraft). Those and other learning puzzles can be found on the website Code.org.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus visited South Perth Centennial School on Dec. 11. The kindergartens enjoyed a one on one visit with Santa. Mrs. Claus read a story and shared her cookies with the kids!!!
