As winter turns to spring and the St. Marys Curling Club begins to wind down its 150th anniversary season, here’s a look at the 2016 playoff picture:
Open Competitive League
Wednesday night (just after we went to press) featured the semi-finals of the Open Competitive League. In one semi-final, Ron Ferguson’s team of deadly accurate sticks takes on the regular season points leaders, the Matt Ignor rink. The other semi-final was a preview of this weekend’s Continental Cup as Amie and Derek Shackleton’s respective teams battle towards next week’s finals.
After stealing two points against Ed Holland to tie the game in the final end, George White calmly drew to the button in overtime to take his team to the finals. Next Tuesday they will face Stewart Grant’s team, who defeated John Queenan in the other semi-final.
The semi-finals have been determined. In the SYO League, Derek Shackleton/Adam Hudson will play Catherine Wallis/Chris Liscumb, while Amie Shackleton/Jason Skipper will play Brady St. Louis/Jadyn Williams. In the Daytime League, the 3-game round-robin portion of the playoffs have been completed with 5 teams sporting 2-1 records: Merlin Leis/Dave Doyle, Ted Podsadecki/Brian Douglas, George Miller/Janice Miller, Luke Debrabandere/Larry Deneve, and Brian Hartwick/Marvin Hartwick.
