Checking in with Bob Smibert

By Stewart Grant
With the torch at Bob’s Fitness Studio being passed to new owners Dave & Sylvie Lucas, I reached out to Bob Smibert himself to get his thoughts as well as to see how life is going out west for Bob and Nina.
On Dave and Sylvie buying the studio:
I had the opportunity to work with Dave and Sylvie back when I owned the studio and they definitely fell in love with the small group fitness concept. Not only do they bring a true genuine love for fitness to the business, but they also are true genuine people right to the bone. I am really looking forward to seeing what they decide to do with the studio and the space. With Dave’s construction background, I’m sure you will see some exciting changes when the time is right.
What Bob and Nina are doing now:
Since I’ve sold the business in St. Marys, I moved back out to North Vancouver with Nina where we were both offered the opportunity to be a part of a fitness franchise called Orange Theory Fitness. Orange Theory is a small group fitness studio providing heartrate-based technology to their clients (www.orangetheoryfitness.com). I am the head coach and Nina is the general manager of the North Vancouver location. We have two owners, one of them being Vancouver Canucks President Trevor Linden and we are truly thankful to be a part of this.
Thoughts on St. Marys:
I truly wanted to express how grateful I am each and every day for the reception that St. Marys gave Bob Smibert’s Fitness Studio when we started it back in 2011. Not only was it an overwhelming show of support that to this day blows my mind, but it also was a learning experience for me in a business that I plan to progress in.
So thank you St. Marys!! I talk about the town and the amazing people that reside in it to my clients all the time. It’s a one a million town that I will always call home.
